Almost finished an old fabric book

DESPERATE for inspiration, I went through some
of my "stuff". I have been totally blocked by the
idea of working on my Egypt journal.
This fabric book was dedicated to Viggo Mortenson.
It was started at Art Unraveled (2005??)
in a class taught by the multi-talented
Lisa Englebrecht.
It was in a plastic bag, in pieces.

This is the cover, with a large "V" for Viggo
(the only completed page in the book)

Page 1 and 2. Page 2 got blemished when I
fused the picture to the page, I had forgotten
that is was floated on the backing.

Page 3 and 4. The caption on page 4 reads
" I didn't have friends when I was little...
I learned to rely on myself" and I added
"I will be your friend!" in purple.
Page 5 and 6, not finished yet, but the red and
gold page has machine and hand stitching. More
to come on these two pages. Page 7 and 8, page 7 is sparse, so more will probably
be done. I like page 8, which is painted canvas
in earthy tones and jagged edges.
My favorite - the last two pages.
Hopefully this will open the log jam!

There are some amazing journals there

OFFCENTER ALBUQUIRKY HOUSE TOUR

If you are in the Albuquerque area on Saturday:
The 4th Annual OFFCENTER ALBUQUIRKY HOUSE TOUR Fundraiser Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 1 pm – 4 pm Cost: $25 per ticket note: tickets can be mailed to you, or picked up at OFFCenterThis is not your father’s house tour—unless your father owns 300 toothbrushes or has 500 pairs of shoes nailed to the telephone poles around his house…. these are genuine HOUSES, where creative, individual, unconventional people actually live. And they’re opening up their houses for one afternoon so you can enjoy their décor, interior design, personal zeitgeist. Start the day, Saturday, May 2nd at 1 pm, by dropping by OFFCenter Community Arts Project where you can have a little snack. You’ll also be given the clues for a “quirky hunt”, where you’ll be eligible to win wonderful (need we say, quirky) prizes. Then set out to see the houses; we call them “Shoes on a Telephone Pole”, “The Gate House”, “A True Collaboration: Art & Architecture”, and “A Home for Everyone”. You’ll see what we mean. What a great day! Just remember to make OffCenter one of your stops on the tour. To get tickets call: 505-247-1172

BAAAA-Studs

Check out this website:
http://www.slipperybrick.com/2009/03/pong-playing-led-sheep/
It is fascinating. A group of shepherds, dogs and sheep create a reproduction of the Mona Lisa and play pong!
Off to see the exhibit at 516 Arts and then to paint on silk! Woo Hoo!

Happy Earth Day

I did my part today, I recycled 5 boxes of material from my craft closet. We have discovered a great organization that works with immigrant women, teaching them English and giving them the chance to show their skills. I had hung onto this fabric for years, and would never use it! I am glad to get it out of the studio and to be able to give women a chance!

I got this link from my friend L, who really appreciates LIFE. Check it out, it is beautiful, and starts and ends with White Sands, one of my favorite places on this great earth!

Rainbow Artists meeting

Rainbow Artists' Meeting tonight was excellent~!
Caryl McHarney was our moderator and brought all the supplies,
paper and natural "stuff".
In honor of Earth day, we used natural materials to enhance a
quote about art/nature.

The quote on this page reads:

In nature there are neither rewards nor

punishments - there are only consuequenses.

Robert G. Ingersoll

This is stems, and will need to have some

sketchy stick like lines put in.

Leaves

More sticks and stems

Grasses, again this will need some additional
marks

This is my favorite, it is a small spray of
buds with leaves. I am sure that this
will end up on some cards.

Sunday Afternoon spending spree!

After our Sunday Lunch Bunch meeting, we went over to the Westside. The Albuquerque Open Space center was having a recycle art fair. They had some really cute stuff and the three of us did our part to support the recyclying effort.

One of the booths had purses and small bags made from various layers of recycled grocery bags, and messenger bags made from recycled mens suits. I simply could not resist this tan plaid bag. and the silver peace sign earrings also called my name...

These dancing ladies just seemed to need to have my goddess/dancing women corner as their new home. They fit right in, but I may need to find a bigger corner if I keep adding to it! The smaller of the figures has a heart! The other one I like because she is substantial!

Saturday Hike at Elena Gallegos

Images from our hike at Elena Gallegos Park yesterday, with snow on the Sandias.

It was COLD, as you can see we are all bundled up!

Another odd weather day in New Mexico

It is only 36 degrees, but when I got up it was very light (the
last few days have been very cloudy and overcast). When I
looked out, this is what I saw:

There is usually not enough moisture in New Mexico (20%
humidity is HIGH here) to make fog, but I bet that before
I got up it was very foggy. Very unusual weather.

Arghhhh!

It is still snowing here, but did not stick. I am tired of this.
Time for sunshine and warm temps!

I went in to work late, so I had some time to work on my Egyptian Journal
I have wanted to do a vertical layout, and have painted the Nile,
and am auditoning what I want to put on this page.

Here is my studio cat/art helper. I think she must
have been an Egyptian kittie in the past

Birthday Dinner for Jan at the local Flying Star cafe.
We had great free desserts, one chocolate, one Italian Creme
and one Strawberry and Whipped Cream.

OH COME ON IT'S APRIL ALREADY

For those of you in the frozen northern reaches, this may not be bad, but this is the Sunny Southwest after all. It was 71 degrees yesterday and then I woke up to this again this AM:
It was still dark out!

Since I have returned from my world travels, the cats (Fuzzy Bucket and Baby Cakes) have been sticking like glue to me. They are sitting behind my computer and keeping me company!
