Windy, windy Albuquerque

Unfortunately, the winds have whipped a fire that was almost contained into a raging wildfire. The wind usually blows in the spring, but this is really nasty. Windy, dusty and now smoky! YUCK

But the relief printing class continues, we did multiple plate three color reductive printing last night. My registration is HORRIBLE, but it does not look this bad in person! First cut

More Santa Fe Photos

What is this????

TA DA! We were all fascinated by this artwork (talk about mixed media) that is hanging in the Capitol in Santa Fe! I did not record the name of the artist, but this is amazing

An interesting view, Jan!

Great pics from Santa Fe trip last week

Pink Adobe Restaurant
I forgot my camera when we went to Santa Fe last week but Jan remembered hers. We saw a great SAQA show in the roundhouse and everyone picked their favorite quilt. There were 6 of us, and there were 6 different favorites!

Jan picked La Memoria del Cerro Grande by Susan Rojas

Karen picked Garden of Dyer's Delight by Colleen Sizemore

Sandy picked Desert Prickly Poppy by Yadi Flannery

Winona picked Sand Patterns by Nancy Steidle
Michelline picked JiFaF's Giraffes by Julie FilatoffShari picked Passages by Mary Olivea

Relief Printing Class Number Two, we actually printWoodcut on handmade paper

Poppies #2 (the good copy)

Poppies #1 (not inked well enough)

Is it a tree with the moon in the middle
Or a face?

Aboriginal #1, probably my best print.

The aboriginal, poppies and the woodcut will probably all be reductive prints.

Carol Sanchez is an excellent instructor, and I LOVE this class!

I have come out of hibernation!

Just like these daffodils, given to my by a new friend. "thanx" W.

After my busy week, I stayed at home today and worked on homework for the printing class that I am taking. After some consideration, I decided to pass on the woodcut portion, and concentrate on lino for now. I had a hard time controlling my cuts on the wood (I know that I did not have the right tools at home for that... I could not use the speedball cutters, as I could not control where my lines ended. And I will be busy enough on the lino. Here are two preliminary lino cuts (poppies are inspired by Linda and Laura Kemshall's book The Painted Quilt)

I have decided that this free form design looks aboriginal.
Both of them are rather hard to see, as I have not pulled a proof print yet.

I also cut a speedball rubber with a dragonfly motif.

I still love this site!

I get an email every day with the new posts, and some I just can't resist!

Spent the day in a workshop with my friend Pamela, and it was a very good experience. I am taking tomorrow off, as I have had some non-work function almost every day this week! A lazy day will do me good. Of course, I have some homework for the Carol Sanchez Relief Printing class, so it will not be a totally lazy day.

Great Day in Santa Fe

We are so lucky living only 67 miles from Santa Fe! Six of us took off today and went to the Roundhouse. There was a SAQA show at the Capitol, and they blew us all away! Fantastic work, and all so different. We all picked out a different favorite quilt, and enjoyed talking about techniques, etc. Three of us were quilters (two rather traditional, and ME), and three artists, but non-quilters/fabric people.

There is also an astonishing amount of fantastic art just hanging in the halls!
We went to lunch at the Pink Adobe, and had great food and an even better dessert. I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner.
On the way back to Albuquerque, we stopped at a show opening in Bernalillo, and then had dinner at the Range Cafe!
All in all, an inspiring day.

I came home and worked on the Altered Book Round Robin, and here are the pictures. The theme was Girls Gone Bad, and I used several quotes, two tags, fiber, and a library card pocket.

Micheline, here is my take on the circle quilt:

Artful Sunday

I had my little art group, with some additions, over for an Artful Sunday. Of course we ate: appetizers, antipasto, salmon salad, crackers and fruit salad. Great group and good food! The mission for the day was to cut our own stamps, and some of us did that and some did not. But a good time was had by all!

I am taking a relief printing course with a local printer, Carol Sanchez. She is great, and last night we just got an orientation and started cutting on lino and wood. I did not care so much for the wood, but loved the lino. Next week we will make our first prints! Can't wait, and brought home homework!

I am a docent at a relatively new gallery, 516 Arts in downtown Albuquerque. Tomorrow night we are showing a collage film for a local film exhibition. Should be interesting. If you are in the Albuquerque area, they have a fantastic show on collage and drawings that will be up until the end of May.

Another Artful Sunday

My hand carved stamp: original pencil sketch, first impression in upper right (not exciting at all...) next iteration in the bottom middle, two prints in the middle and the actual stamp in the bottom left. Not my best work, but I enjoyed it.
Six of us got together at my house for an Artful Sunday and we had a great time, great food and great art!

Wanna see me run a red light?

Caught by the Red Light Cameras:

got my notice in the mail yesterday. Bad girl!

Since there is an arrow to turn right, I may look at this view closer in Photoshop and see if the arrow was still green and/or orange and then think about fighting it. The fine is $69 and a friend of mine got hers converted to community service, so I may try that also.

Getting ready for a show

I am getting ready to enter a show and went through my stash and found two WIPs that I will try to enter. I better hurry, as the deadline is May 9, but having a deadline makes me work harder! Sorry about the pink basting thread!

A New Experience for Me

I tried accupuncture today. I am still not sure about this.
I went in to see if she could help relieve my foot pain.
That went well, but it must have really stirred up some major toxins in my system. My foot felt better, but by the time I got to work I was nauseated. And felt yucky.

I went home and slept for 2 hours, woke up loggy and with a headache. The headache persisted until abut 8 tonight, and I am finally feeling better.

I am amazed that my foot feels so much better (there is still a little pain, but nothing like it was causing me!

I am posting some of my altered book pages, I am still enamoured of the Derwent pencils!

This is a sketchbook page that I colored with the Derwent pencils.
