Go Albuquerque and Globalquerque

Albuquerque is a BUSY place today. Globalquerque (at the Hispanic Cultural Center) and Go Albuquerque (DOWNTOWN on Gold Street) were both going strong today. I saw both of them and some of the art was stunning. Didn't spend a lot, but did my part to support the economy! If you are in the area, check both of them out.

Glass Treasures

These are my treasures. It is only the first wash, they are soaking again. I found an old ink bottle with the well attached to the inside (no I do not remember using nibs to write with), and several very small bottles. The green jar is square and i am trying to remember what came in it? Geritol??
BTW, you can double click to see a larger view.

An Adventure at the River and mushrooms

River Views

People find treasures and leave them for others to find...

black capped mushrooms

We made a run to the dump today to look for glass treasures. The day was so clear and nice after the rain that we had earlier in the week! There were mushrooms (which I did not realize would grow here...) in the grassy areas around my condo.

Is this four pizzas?

This is probably the only hint that I can give, but this is one of my entries for the Subversive Stitchery show at Through the Flower.

We Art the People Festival

One of last year's puppet used as a decoration.

Today was the annual We Art the People festival in Robinson Park. Rainbow Artist's sponsored the Desert Willow collective to enable them to sell their wares. They had some very nice items ( I bought a bag and my friend also bought one).

The belly dancers were right behind their spaces.

Works in Process

OK, I have taken this week off from work, and have really been
doing some art. I am getting ready for an exhibit in October, and
one piece is good, another one is just not jelling!
This is the piece that I am not happy with, the quote
reads "The woman's place of power within each of us is not
white nor surface, it is dark, it is ancient, it is deep".
I just cannot get happy with it, and have tried two complete
pieces, and an now putting it aside for later??
This mystery pile is for the other pieces, the third and fourth editions
in my "Frayed Around the Edges" series. Can't let you peek
yet, but they were very much more successful than the first
piece ever was. I am also creating a quiltet based on the Margaret
Mead quote "I am reveling in postmenopausal zest!"

More NM Weather

well, I am home now and I looked out my window and saw the most amazing cloud picture. By the time I found my camera it was not nearly as amazing, but is a good picture even tho a telephoto lens would have been better!

Labor Day suspicious cloud

We had a little excitement on Labor Day, this cloud
never did coalesce, thank goodness!

It was sitting on the ground, but never really got going!

After the cloud dispersed, it rained over a half of an

inch of rain (which is a LOT of rain for the desert southwest!)

If you look closely, you can see where the bank

has fallen off.

I hired a creative temp!

See my previous post about hiring a creative temp, who will do
mindless, but artistic work until your artistic drought disappears.
Last night she decorated these envelopes! I am ready to start on finishing
the fabric wall hanging I have been hung up on for the last two weeks.
Just for comic relief, here is baby cakes surronded by purple tulle!

I want a creative temp!

I am going through Simple Abundance, a Daybook of Comfort and Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach.

The entry for Aug. 31 was very interesting (in reference to a creative dry spell):

"It is so difficult to come to a halt, especially when we want to get on with our careers, realationships, health, creativity. But when you're too parched to pray, beyond tears, or too drained to give a damn, it's time to cease and desist. Not all our hours are billable.
...Pretend that you're a creative temp, here to fill in until your authentic self arrives. In the meantime defer making any life altering creative decisions until you recieve your operating instructions.... In the natural world, droughts depart as suddenly and as mysteriously as they arrive. "

I love the idea a being a creative temp, once removed from our everyday world and even our art!
