Fools Gold 2

Stash from an artist's estate sale last Saturday.
I JUST missed buying a Standing floor lamp Ott light for $10!
I could have KICKED myself!
Got all of this Loot for $16
I have been lazy this week, had a very hard week due to a
JERK at work, so I have just been coming home and vegging out.
I have two more Fools Gold pieces (#3 and #4) started.
I am going to Dallas for the weekend and will probably
take them with me to work on, but maybe not!
I have not even rusted anything in 3 days!

More Rusty Bits

Don't know if you can see the halloween/jack o'lantern in this...
This is off of the gear

this small piece was wrapped aroung baling wire (texas term for flexible wire), I am disappointed that it did not transfer better.
@#@#@#@#@#

This is all from my rusty bits acquired over labor day. Flakes of a 55 gallon drum, the two mechanical round pieces, and the baling wire. It sat for two days and on the second day I added water and vinegar. I think that the vinegar is what caused the very orange color (it is much more orange than my camera made it)- I will have to invest in a good small camera before my trip to Egypt next March.

Just double click on the bottle.

UGH! Disgusting!!!

Rusted Washers
results from the rusty bits I picked up over Labor Day

This was wrapped around the gear thingy (see previous posts)

This is the brake rotor(??) (Purple is from my camera, it is really on Muslin!)
I think it is time for a new camera

This is the disgusting part....
Cheesecloth, still damp

Unofrtunatley, when it dried it resembles bandages with dried body fluids!

Don't think that I will be using this in anything, but you never know.

I also tried rusting some polyester batting, and that did not work either!

Rusty Bits

I went (deliberately) out in the field at my nephew's 40 acres of land over Labor Day. I found these rusty bits (some of which I do not know what they are??) The small pieces are the remains of a "burn barrel" which is a 55 gallon drum that my Mother used to burn her trash in. Between the fire and the water, it is breaking into little bits. I will definitely revisit this, as the longer it sits the more rusty it gets!

Now back to my petroglyph photos:
spiral and dots

Leaf (?)

Color Test

Just had to share this, I got it off of Quiltart. Great site, even though I iwll not tell you what my score was! I want to try this on my super-duper high res monitor at work tomorrow and see if I do any better!

Color test

AARRGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

Google had me locked out, said that I did not have cookies enabled, which I did. I had to set up google as a trusted site, so it may have been a M$ thing.

More petroglyphs will be posted tomorrow.
Today I want to post a new piece, and some WIPs (Works in process)!

Fools Gold - Southwest is a fibre piece that I put into a show for

Rainbow Aritists at the Harwood Art Center

This piece sold! It is rusted muslin, muslin, rusted washers and thread.

Newest versions of Fools Gold

More Petroglyphs

Various different forms, including one humanoid figure.
Roadrunner??

Circle with dots (a recurring theme)

A face

Deer??

Tlaloc

Bear Claw (another recurring theme)

Various glyphs
I was helped immeasurably by a book called
"Signs of Life ... Rock Art of the Upper Rio Grande"
by Dennis Slifer
I have had a petroglyph quilt bubbling in the back of my
mind for some time, and now think that I
have enough to at least get started.
More will follow tomorrow

Labor Day Weekend

Took off Friday and Tuesday and had a great weekend! Not sure why these pics came out so purple, but here goes:

This is relatively rare for Southern New Mexico-standing water. We had a lot of rain over the weekend, and this is what was left at the Three Rivers Petroglyph site.

All of the above pictures were taken of my son David at the petroglyph site. More petroglyphs will follow on later days.

Mother and David at home relaxing.

My great niece Amber is saying goodbye to a tiny (about 1" long) Horney Toad that they found. She wanted to keep it, but was finaly convinced to let it go (did you know that horney toads eat ants and crickets?). She is tearfully saying goodbye, even though the critter was discovered again in a few minutes at another location. Horney toads used to abound in the desert around Tularosa (my sone David, and Amber's Daddy Dennis used to spend hours catching them) but pesiticides have decimated the population that finding one is pretty rare now.

check out this quiz. I got it from my sister and perfect hedonist that I am, it said I was a dreamer who liked to indulge myself and pamper myself in exotic locations! They got me right!

Going Green

I have always been pretty green (I have recycled since 1985)
but some other things I do include:
1. Catching water at the faucet while I wait for the water to warm up (I catch it direclty in my watering can and then apply it to my plants
2. I use cloth bags for groceries (they say paper or plastic?? -- NEITHER!) Sold by my Unitarian church
3. I have minimized my use of papertowels and paper napkins by using cloth
4. If I have grey water (when I don't shampoo my hair) I also use it water my plants
5. I am saving the chipboard out of cereal boxes to use in my art

It does't sound like much, but I do what I can.

This is a very interesting link:

Free Tarot Reading

See my sideline for the Tarot card of the day and go here for a free reading. Thanks W for letting us know about this.

I went and got a free reading, all turmoil, disappointment, unrest and crappy stuff. Of course that is where I am at, so I need to work on that!

Check it out, as it is very interesting.

Tuesday Happenings

Since my feed dogs do not drop (it is a Kenmore that just zig-zags and goes back and forth!) I have to improvise. I take a business card (or temp credit card) punch a hole in the middle, and tape it down. Works like a charm!I turned around to see my studio cat, Baby Cakes, had made herself comfortable.

If you look closely at the paw on the right, you can see her polydactyl paws-- looks like a catcher's mitt!

In the interest of fairness, here is my not studio cat Fuzzy Bucket. She wakes up in a new world each day (sometimes several times a day!)
